“Happiness is the joy you feel while striving to reach your potential" – Shaun Achor
People ask me about my license plates. This is my answer.
Happiness is the joy we feel from striving for our potential. That quote from Shaun Achor reminds me to focus more on my thoughts and actions… not so much on my results. The inputs, not the outputs, if your goal is in fact to be happier. (The goal IS to be happier.)
The point is to NOT expect that you will somehow magically be happy AFTER you reach a goal. Sure, it feels good in the moment, but then what? 🤷♂️ The very act of going for it is what makes you happy in the first place. The striving, the effort, the act of getting stuff done is way more fun than having more stuff. But as an added bonus, happy people reach more goals so they end up with more stuff anyway. Funny how that works. 🤣
Of course, potential is an unrealistic goal. It's more of a mindset. You can never really reach your potential because as soon as you do, it expands. It's a virtuous, upward cycle. And that's the point. Focus on your actions, not some arbitrary goal you may or may not ever reach. So, do the hard thing. Strive to reach your potential! You'll be happier if you get there or not.
